About The Derevo Collection
The ever-popular G. DeBrekht Masterpiece Collection is the blueprint for the innovative Derevo Collection. The Masterpiece Collection is extremely limited due to the time and care involved in creating each piece. G. DeBrekht founder Andre Gabricht dreamed of developing a new collection that would be more accessible to the collectors. Thus, The Derevo Collection, derived from the Russian word for wood, debuted in 1999. This limited edition series brings collectors fine G. DeBrekht art in a variety of subjects and forms, each featuring elaborate carvings.

First, a mold is made of the original Masterpiece Collection hand-carved sculpture. A proprietary blend of resin, wood, seashells and other ingredients was created especially for the Derevo Collection. This blend has a finished surface that closely resembles wood. Each Derevo piece is then hand-cast and molded using this blend.

Then, a small, select group of gifted artisans, each trained in the Eastern European technique of decorative and story illustration painting, hand paint each piece. This method of painting is a folk art technique that has been handed down from one generation to the next for hundreds of years. Derevo artists paint freehand, without the aid of outlines, stencils, decals or airbrush, on the flat surface of the figurine, much like an artist painting on a canvas. Each piece in the Derevo Collection is a unique work of art. No two pieces will ever be identical. It takes more than two years to complete each edition of these works of art.

History of G.DeBrekht Artistic Studios - Skilled Hands Create Fine Art
From early childhood, artist and creative director Andre Gabricht enjoyed traveling through Russia with his father, George, visiting small villages where artists excelled in different crafts and artistic styles. His father liked to carve special gifts for friends and then have them embellished by the various artists he discovered in his travels. The elder Gabricht’s hobby laid the foundation for what became G. DeBrekht Artistic Studios. As Andre explains, his father had found that different hands doing their best work resulted in a magnificent work of art.

Andre and his wife Vicky decided to immigrate to the United States in 1990 with their young daughters to share the Russian art they loved with the rest of the world through original G. DeBrekht designs. Special items, such as large wood carved figurines, were created to continue the G. DeBrekht tradition, combining different art techniques into one piece. This way of creating art, utilizing Old World traditions and employing many different artists to create a single sculpture, is the approach that G. DeBrekht Artistic Studios follows today.

The G. DeBrekht brand and style is instantly recognizable because they developed a nostalgic art form all their own with distinctive styling and individual character. Present day carving styles and contemporary color schemes are being utilized in the current collections.
