    About Waterford:
For over two centuries the town of Waterford had produced the world's finest crystal. In 1783, George and William Penrose founded the Waterford Glass House, in the ancient Viking city of Waterford and began the tradition of making crystal in "as fine a quality as any in Europe ... in the most elegant style". The Penrose's knew the secret of mingling minerals (silica sand, litharge and potash) and glass to create crystal with beautiful mysterious qualities. When tapped it sang sweetly. When touched, it felt warm and soft. The magnificent pieces crafted in Waterford's early period set the standards now recognized as the hallmarks of Waterford Crystal. In 1851, Waterford Crystal factory was forced to close, largely due to heavy excise duties.

Waterford's great tradition lay dormant for a hundred years. But when the Irish independence rekindled its passion for the Irish Arts in the 1940's and 1950's, a group of businessmen resolved to bring back to life the legacy that had made Waterford synonymous with the finest crystal in the world. In 1947, they recruited a small group of artisans and under the guidance of these masters, young apprentices learned the art of Waterford Crystal made famous by their skilled countrymen decades before. By 1951, Waterford Crystal was again launched on the world market. By the 1980's, Waterford Crystal became the largest producer of hand crafted crystal.

    Care Instructions:
The crystal on a Waterford lighting product should be cleaned regularly with a soft, damp cloth. Gently wipe away dust taking care not to dampen any of the metal fittings. The metal has been carefully finished and only requires only a light dusting with a soft cloth. Do not use any polishes or cleaners on the crystal or metal.

  • Jorge Perez Waterford
A name synonymous with elegance and luxury, Waterford was founded in 1783 by George and William Penrose in the ancient Viking city of Waterford. From the start, the principle that would guide the company for more than 200 years was simple: handcraft crystal “as fine as any in Europe…in the most elegant style.”

The Penrose’s knew the secret to mixing just the right minerals and glass to produce crystal with beautiful and mysterious qualities. When tapped, it sang sweetly. When touched, it felt warm and soft. The magnificent pieces crafted in Waterford's early period set the standards now recognized as the hallmarks of Waterford Crystal.

Today, Waterford is the world’s top producer of handcrafted crystal, and continues to be the brand of choice for the most elegant of table settings and luxury lifestyle accoutrement.
