Wedgwood 250th Anniversary Jasperware Sugar Bowl w/ Lid

"Look at how exquisite this is. I love lidded pieces. These are functional. It's a matte glaze inside, it's not porous. Use for your sugar, your potpourri, or wonderful lighting." --Wedgwood's Jorge Perez

Enjoy a relaxing coffee or tea break while you bring a sense of history to any table. Crafted from sophisticated jasperware, this sugar bowl and lid set features the iconic cornflower blue background and white relief. About Lady Elizabeth Templetown:
An amateur artist and sculptor, Lady Elizabeth Templetown created designs for Wedgwood in the late 1700s. Many of her designs featured women and children tending to the house, which were termed the "Domestic Employment" series.

About Jasperware:
The most famous and prized of all Josiah Wedgwood's inventions is jasperware, which has been produced for more than 200 years. Available in a variety of colors, the unglazed vitreous body of jasperware provides the perfect background for various classic scenes in bas-relief. Its name derives from the fact that the material resembles the natural stone jasper.

Emphasizing Wedgwood's attention to the finest details, commitment to superior quality and presentation, jasperware was originally developed in the 1770s and continues to be a favorite with collectors worldwide. There were thousands of recorded trials, hopes raised and dashed, before Wedgwood was pleased with his new finely-grained stoneware. Jasperware is capable of "receiving colors through its whole surface, in a manner which no other body, ancient or modern has been known to do". Wedgwood felt it was one of his greatest achievements. Subtle and sophisticated, the Wedgwood jasperware collection features a specially polished matte finish to give a finer texture to the surface. Wedgwood jasperware offers extensive gifting and collecting choices, as well as the liberty to enhance a home with classic pieces that are beautiful and useful.

Care Instructions:
Use a soft lint free cloth to remove surface dust using care around the relief. If necessary, wash with mild soap and hot water using care around relief. Do not soak your jasperware or put it in the dishwasher.
