  • Sheet Sets

Selecting your sheets is just as important as choosing a good mattress! When making your decision, it is essential to consider the fabric, fiber and thread count that will produce the comfort-level that's best for you.

    Fabrics/Fibers
Sheets can be made from many different fabrications. Various fibers and weaves are ultimately responsible for the particular performance characteristics of a sheet set.

  • Cotton is a natural fiber grown throughout the world. While it is comfortable and absorbent with a soft hand, it also drapes nicely and retains its color and strength. To create a truly premium product, cotton is sometimes combed to remove short fibers and make the longer, more prized fibers align more uniformly. Long-Staple Cotton is a classification for any cotton with fibers from 1-1/8" to 2-1/2" long. The longer the staple length of the fibers, the better the quality of thread is produced. Outstanding types of this cotton are Egyptian, Pima and Sea Island.
  • Egyptian Cotton is a long-staple fiber crown from the arid climate of Egypt. The fibers are more continuous and stronger than other cottons, yet are smaller in diameter. The smaller yarn produced by Egyptian cotton fibers allows for more threads per square inch to be used. This results in a stronger fabric that is lightweight and quite luxurious.
  • Organic Cotton is grown using methods that have a low impact on the environment, without the use of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.
  • Bamboo sheets are inherently silky-soft and comfortable, while possessing natural anti-bacterial properties that remain even after washing. Due to its cellulose formation, bamboo fiber fabrics have the natural ability breathe. They can absorb and evaporate moisture immediately, keeping you extremely comfortable.
  • Silk sheets are a luxurious option that provide a blissful and comfortable sleeping experience for all seasons. When considering silk sheets, pay attention to the "momme weight" which measures the weight of silk. A very low momme count means the sheets won't be as durable as a higher number because they are thinner. The ideal momme weight for silk sheets is between 12 and 19.
  • Flannel come in many different colors and designs and are loved for their comfortable warmth during winter. Flannel sheets are made of 100% cotton and will feel softer after each washing.

    Thread Count
Quality sheets are often defined by the thread count of the fabric. Thread count is the number of woven threads in one square inch of fabric. Higher thread counts create higher-quality, more durable weaves that generally feel smoother and softer. Lower thread counts can pill and feel rough, but are affordable and aptly serve their purposes. Common thread counts range from 180 to 1,200. While important, thread count does not alone determine how a fabric performs and feels. Also consider the yarn size and ply when determining the level of quality you desire.

  • Yarn Size
Yarn size refers to the thickness of the individual threads that make up a woven fabric. The higher the yarn size, the finer the thread. Quality sheets usually have a yarn size ranging from 40 to 100. Finer yarns can only be made from high-quality, long staple cottons such as Supima. Yarn size is important to thread count because finer yarns take up less space than thicker yarns, thus the highest thread count sheets are generally made from the finest yarns.
  • Ply
The other important component to thread count is ply. Single ply fabrics are made from individually woven threads of yarn, while two-ply fabrics are made from two threads of yarn that are first twisted together and then woven. Since two-ply fabrics have essentially double the thread count of their single ply counterparts, two-ply fabrics must be made from extremely fine yarns, otherwise the end product might feel too bulky and heavy

    Sizing
Make sure you have precisely measured your mattress for its length, width and height. Most mattresses are usually made in specific standard sizes, but there is the possibility of slight variances. Deep pockets will be required for Eurotop or pillow top mattresses.
