Batwing Sleeves
In a batwing sleeve, the curved seam that typically goes around the armhole is eliminated. This makes the sleeve and bodice one piece, whereas the sleeve can be thought of as an "extension" of the bodice. The sleeve is designed without a socket for the shoulder, thus creating a deep, wide armhole. Batwing sleeves were very popular during the 1930s.
