Sweet Romance™ 17" Magnesite Cross Double Chain Necklace w/ 5" Extender

Express your faith with this lovely Renaissance style piece! The necklace features one fancy 40 x 50mm turquoise magnesite as an outline to the cross. The centerpiece is one oval cabochon 10 x 8mm gold stone surrounded by eight round cut 1.5mm white stones. The ends of the cross feature one oval cabochon 7 x 5mm green stone, one oval cabochon 7x 5mm white stone and one oval cabochon 7 x 5mm light purple stone.

All these stones are made of glass and are in bezel settings. The total approximate magnesite weight is 40.00ct. The necklace measures 17"L x 1/8"W and the actual cross measures 2-3/4"L x 2-1/16"W. The necklace is gold-tone and has both a beaded and rolo chain. It comes with a 5" extender and a lobster clasp.

About the Cross
Since prehistoric times the cross has symbolized life, fertility, health and immortality. Like many symbols, the cross represents a broad spectrum of ideas. It is viewed as a coordinate where north, south, east and west come together. It also joins the four elements of earth, wind, fire and water. It was thought to have symbolic meaning prior to acquiring its Christian symbolism. Today the cross is known as a spiritual, protective and ornamental emblem throughout the entire world.

Background Story
A natural stone earthy palette is blended with filigree metal elements to allow interpretation of this cross as a Southwestern look or a Renaissance look - either would be correct. The cross is magnesite, a mineral that has a turquoise color. Glass goldstone, glass seed pearls and old Czech glass cabs of opal, jade and amethyst colors are great palettes for either expression. Exquisite vintage filigrees, shaped like the architectural details in old cathedrals are distinctly vintage. Worn for fashion or spirituality, the cross is the most enduring of all jewelry themes.

Created / Simulated Gem

Created/Simulated Stones:

How are created or simulated gemstones different from natural gemstones? Natural gemstones are created by the forces of nature and must be discovered, usually by digging in the ground or sifting through a riverbed. Most of these natural gemstones can also be created in a laboratory; they are called created or simulated gemstones. They can be physically—in mineral and chemical contents—identical to their naturally occurring counterparts.

The purpose of creating gemstones in a laboratory isn’t necessarily to reduce the costs, but rather to produce larger, more perfectly formed stones. Because even lab-created diamonds can be very expensive, there are some diamond alternatives on the market that are commonly used to give jewelry the look of authentic diamonds, but which are much less costly. Cubic zirconia and Signity Star® are examples of lab-created gemstones that, to the unaided eye, look identical to natural diamonds.
