Wool is a cozy, spongy-feeling fabric that offers an abundance of warmth and insulation. Wool fibers come from a variety of animals' coats. Some are scratchier to the touch while some are extremely soft. Wool returns to its original shape after being stretched and can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture and still feel dry. It's a wonderful, long-lasting fabric for tailored garments. Here are general care guidelines:

  • Hang most wool garments on shaped or padded hangers between wearings. They usually return to their original shape and don't wrinkle. Be sure to fold wool knits.
  • Refresh and de-wrinkle wool garments by hanging them in a steamy bathroom.
  • Brush wool garments with a damp sponge to remove surface soil.
  • If a wool garment accidentally gets wet, dry it at room temperature.
  • Store wool with fresh cedar blocks to combat moths.
  • Consider dry cleaning your wool garments once per season before storing.
  • When pressing wool, use the wool setting and steam on the reverse side of the fabric. Don't slide the iron back and forth.
