Silk is an elegant, luxurious and sensuous fabric. It's the strongest natural fabric, prized for its comfort and versatility. This fabric of all seasons absorbs moisture, staying cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Silk can be easily dyed with many rich colors and it retains its shape and drapes beautifully. Most silk fabrics can be washed by hand, but dry cleaning is generally preferred because detergents may adversely affect silk. Be sure to read the individual labels on your silk garments. For washable silk, follow these care guidelines:

  • Items without linings and delicate details can be carefully washed by hand with lukewarm water and a mild soap, such as a shampoo without wax or petroleum.
  • Rinsing silk in hair conditioner can help combat static and clinging.
  • Never use chlorine bleach on silk.
  • When storing silk for an extended period of time, seal it to protect against light, air and insects.
  • Do not wring silk fabrics, but roll them in a towel to dry.
  • Silk may fade with the use of a hot iron.
  • Generally ironing is safe with press cloths and steam.
