Rayon is a fabric with many qualities similar to cotton, including strength and absorbency. It is a lovely draping fabric that feels much like silk. Usually rayon garments should be dry-cleaned, but some types of the fabric can be washed by hand or machine. Whether a rayon garment is washable is usually stated on the care label. Use the following information as a guide to washing rayon:
- Use lukewarm or cool water and mild soap.
- Gently work suds through the garment and rinse with lukewarm water.
- Take care not to wring or twist the fabric.
- Dry garments on non-rust hangers but lay heavier items, such as sweaters, flat to dry.
- Press damp garments on the wrong side with a moderately warm iron.
- Press rayon garments with a cool iron between wearings.
