About Ouro Verde:
Ouro Verde is a praseolite that has a greenish yellow body color and is produced by heating certain amethysts with the addition of irradiation. As with green amethyst, the color is permanent and will not fade. Both have a Mohs rating of 7 and are excellent for daily wear. Praseolite comes in large sizes and displays excellent clarity, all at an affordable price. Green amethyst and Ouro Verde are slightly different colors of a natural gemstone called praseolite, belonging to the quartz family. While the color of praseolite can occur naturally, it is most often heat treated amethyst. Not all amethyst will change into praseolite when heated, only certain stones from certain areas will do this. Lightly colored amethysts from the Montezuma mine in Brazil, when heated, will turn into this lovely green hue. The color is permanent and will not fade.
